Our Community Garden History

The Mid-Sun Community Garden was begun at the end of May, 2009. A group of interested and enthusiastic Mid-Sun residents banded together to help build thirty 8' x 4' raised beds for the grassy area on the north side of the community centre.
In 2010, twenty more beds were added, as well as several perimeter fruit trees, Saskatoon bushes, and other landscaping considerations.
In 2011, twelve beds were added for a total of 62 beds.
For the 2012 season, an’ ad hoc’ committee refurbished the Community Garden structure and processes to provide a welcoming registration process and new Garden Guidelines.
  1. Volunteerism is the cornerstone of our Garden, and a number of teams have been set up to build and maintain the Garden.
  2. Each gardener volunteers for at least one team.
  3. A leadership team has been elected consisting of Co-Chairs, Secretary, Treasurer, and Planning Consultant.
  4. New communication tools have been launched:
  • A GMail account midsungarden.org for the Leadership Team to conduct its affairs electronically, to archive records and to distribute Gardener Email communications about assigned Teams, upcomoing events and their results, special messages and words of encouragement.  Gardeners are encouraged to communicate with the leadership team and team members using this account.
  • A Garden Blog to provide access to garden information, to archive garden communications, and to provide means to post interactions among gardeners.
  • The Community Garden page within the Mid-Sun Community Association website http://www.midsun.org/ provides an overview and links to the GMail account and the Garden Blog to find more current information.
